Grawn Hall Renovation

Mt. Pleasant, Michigan // 51,000 sq. ft.

Built in 1915, Central Michigan University’s Grawn Hall stands as an iconic bridge between the campus and the City of Mount Pleasant. The building, which houses the University’s School of Business Administration, was in need of a major renovation. CMU wanted to morph Grawn Hall from a “typical” academic space into a collaborative, technology-rich building that would support student learning while honoring the campus’s architectural heritage.

The project features a new two-story 6,600 square-foot addition on the west side of the building which includes a new main entry, atrium, cafe, and multifunctional space for large-scale lectures and catered events.

In addition, renovations to 16,200 square feet of existing space included a new student success center, student collaboration spaces, and technology upgrades to current classrooms along with heavy MEP upgrades, updates to corridors, fire suppression, and window replacement. Spaces specific to the needs of business students including sales labs, Bloomberg terminal, and maker spaces, can also be found throughout Grawn Hall.
