First day at Washington Writers’ Academy

1/12 | Past Projects

The building replaces the old Washington Writers' Academy, which opened in 1922 at the same site. The structure was torn down in 2013 and a replacement building constructed.

The school's design pays homage to the fact is is located in one of Kalamazoo's oldest neighborhoods and replaces one of the county's oldest school buildings.

Embedded in the foyer wall of the new structure is the entranceway to the old Washington, and similar features are embedded throughout the building.
