New Building at Nature’s Way Preschool
Surrounded by nine acres of woods, trails and wild habitat, the Nature's Way Preschool in Portage has transformed its classrooms into a state of the art building with innovative designs and sustainable solutions.
Two weeks ago, the students at the nature-oriented preschool were able to watch a dove and a fawn walk across the deck, right outside their classroom window.
On Tuesday, staff, parents and students celebrated with a ribbon cutting.
"It's a much better environment for the kids to learn," Carlisle said. His oldest daughter currently attends the preschool, and his youngest daughter will start next year. "The new building is immersed in the woods, when you are inside you feel like you are in the woods."
The 3000-square feet building is one of few buildings in the United States that has installed a glass technology that prevents birds from hitting it.
"The decking material is made from recycled plastics, and is made to last for a long time. The heating and cooling system is a high energy efficient system," Rose said.
